To continue my last post’s thoughts on how the Sony A9 performed on a recent expedition I guided In Borneo, here is what I think of the video capabilities WOW WOW WOW.
Everything about shooting video was flawlessly easy and accurate. First of all, when I decide to shoot some video I can just press a button that is easy to find, so I don’t have to look for it, and I can SHOOT THROUGH THE VIEW FINDER instead of with Live View on the LCD screen. I can’t tell you how amazingly valuable this is. It is so difficult to film through the LCD, especially in bright light. It’s just an immediate back and forth so I can catch the action fast and efficiently. Over the years I missed so much action because I had to switch to live view. The autofocus is so fast and awesome and I can so easily toggle the focus point. The image stabilizer is just something I can’t describe. I shot a lot of the footage handholding at 800 mm with the 100-400 and 2x converter and it’s not perfect, but nothing like I’ve been able to do before, or even dream was possible. It shoots 4k video, and can shoot 1080p at 120 fps (the Panasonic is the only camera now that can 120 at 4K which is needed for professional quality slow motion, so that is a bit of a bummer. I’m not an expert at all the technical jargon, but I know its amazing.
Here is a 36 minute super cut down video highlight reel of our 14 day trip. It was filmed at 4K, but for this saved at 1080P. Note I was not there to film wildlife footage, I was there to guide a trip, so I just shot a few clips here and there when I got a chance. I never once used a tripod. Check it out. It is also a good chance to see the highlights of the most amazing Borneo Wildlife Expedition available today. Let me know in the comments below what you think. All filmed with 100-400 GM lens and often with the 2x converter.
Keep Exploring! Brad

It was very interesting to read about your adventures at Borneo, and it has always been a dream to visit Borneo.
And next year it is time to get a dream come true, I am not a professional photographer but I have a very big patience that will compensate my photographic skills.
