“President Donald Trump recently signed a cruel bill into law repealing protections for wolves, bears and other wildlife on Alaska’s national wildlife refuges. The law – rushed through Congress under the Congressional Review Act — repealed an Obama administration rule that prohibited killing wolves and their pups in their dens, gunning down bears at bait stations and shooting them from airplanes. And it’s all in an attempt to artificially boost caribou numbers to placate sport hunters.”- Center For Biological Diversity
The bears and Wolves are the soul and character of the wilderness. I have spent my life and career to help people appreciate them. Without these top predators the wilderness isn’t wild, and the whole ecosystem is out of balance. The guys making decisions about wildlife in Alaska are not biologists and their decisions are criminal in my opinion. Please sign this petition! CLICK HERE
In Alaska, the state is in charge of wildlife management. On federal lands the Feds can trump the state if they want to. The state would like to control predators in wildlife refuges, which are federal, as they do in state lands to boost numbers of caribou and moose for human harvest. The Feds are way smarter than the state in these issues, and in the past have not allowed the state to control predators on federally run national wildlife refuges. The Fed decisions are actually made by real biologists, unlike the state decisions which are made by a governor appointed Board Of Game- a good old boy network of sportsman, and hunting industry folks. The Board of Game listens to the residents of the state, the state biologists, and then make the final decisions. The system is full of corruption. This new law repeals the Feds ability to stop these methods of predator control. It only pertains to national wildlife refuges. There won’t be any of this going on in the national parks like Denali and Katmai. but the bears and wolves on the Kenai wildlife refuge, and the other many refuges in Interior Alaska could be in serious trouble. I have also heard that they wish to expand these means to National Preserves, such as Katmai Preserve, which adjoins Katmai National Park.
Please support the Center For Biological Diversity and show your support, and fight the State of Alaska as they are practicing unsound wildlife management!
